The Grammy-winning artist Esperanza Spalding invited in 2018 Gisle to turn the recording and launch of her album EXPOSURE into a groundbreaking interactive experience. As Gisle’s trusted film collaborator, Robert Reinlund led the film and streaming part of the project.
They streamed the entire creative 77 hours musical marathon live on Facebook, with cameras capturing every moment.

This is where it all began. Grammy-winning artist Esperanza Spalding set out to compose, write, and record an entire album… in just 77 hours. No rehearsals. No prepared material.

The Launch
The album was launched as a special experience for Esperanza’s fans. She released the first track as an interactive music file — a simple, early version of what iTO offers today — but with only her bass playing alone throughout the song. Fans were invited to vote on which instrument they wanted her to release on Day 2.

Over the next five days, the first track was unveiled piece by piece. Each day, fans could open their file and discover it had been expanded with the instrument that had received the most votes the day before.
This generated huge excitement and anticipation among her audience — turning the launch into a creative event that fans could truly be part of.
That experience was the spark for iTO — a platform that lets fans not just consume music, but actively join the performance.
